Kano Assembly Stipulates #25,000 Fine For Spitting, Littering, Defecating in Public And Others
Kano State House of Assembly has passed a Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025 which imposes a #25,000 fine on citizens who would be caught littering, urinating, or defecating in open places.
This decision came about at the plenary on reading of the bill on Monday, by the deputy clerk, Alhaji Nasiru Magaji and the Speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore who presided over it.
After the plenary, the majority leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala spoke to the journalists and said the step was necessary to promote cleanliness and beauty in the state.
An agency was therefore, established to oversee the new development; to plant flowers, set up gardens, and prevent citizens from dumping refuse at random places in the state.
A board comprising of a Chairman and 10 members; professionals, who have engineering and beautification knowledge, will govern the agency.
“The bill imposes a fine of N25,000 on anyone caught littering, urinating, or defecating in public places.
They will also prevent the indiscriminate dumping of trash and spitting from moving vehicles, checkmate open defecation, and make the city look beautiful”, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala, the majority leader said.
