JAMB Blacklists Six CBT Centre Officials Over Exam Malpractice
In the ongoing UTME registration, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has blacklisted 6 CBT centre officials, indefinitely, over alleged engagement in exam malpractice.
Isaq Olanrewaju Oluyede, JAMB registrar disclosed this on Monday when he was speaking with journalists. After inspecting some CBT centres in Kwara State, llorin, Oluyede said the 6 officials were blacklisted for involving themselves in blank registration.
“Six staff of CBT centres have been blacklisted. They admitted to the offence and apologised. But instead of punishing the CBT centres like we initially did, we realised that we would be punishing the students, so we decided to identify the staff that were directly involved and blacklisted them.
“The people were caught in alleged examination malpractice, we have their particulars and we will be monitoring them wherever they go even if they become professors and are to be appointed as Vice Chancellors.
Going further in his statement, Oluyede warned against any form of misbehaviour in examinations such as WAEC, NECO and the likes stressing that if anyone was caught going against rules and regulations, the offense extends to JAMB as well. On the other hand, if you misbehave during WAEC or NECO, it would affect your JAMB too.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that JAMB’s target for this year’s examination is about 2 million participants. He said that 124,632 have already registered for JAMB mock examination.
On 10th February 2025 being the fifth day of the exam registration, Oluyede said not less than 32,435 candidates registered in less than 24 hours.
Totally, the registrar said about 420,674 candidates have registered for 2025/2026 JAMB as of the time of this report.
On the other hand, the registrar talked about the number of underage candidates who are less than 16 years urging parents to stop pushing their children describing them as selfish parents.
When he was asked about the system allowing underage candidates to register, Oluyede said; “All underaged candidates are made to sign an indemnity form or undertaking to meet up with academic ability or be sanctioned for such failure to meet up with claimed exceptional intelligence”.
“You can see how we’re deceiving ourselves in this country. Before the maximum figure would be about 300. In a situation when we’ve just started in five days and we have a total number of 4996 underaged registrants. By the end of today, there will be more than 5000.
“Many of these parents have misdirected their children. They want to use their children’s early education to decorate their CVs”, he said condemning parents who push their children.
Expressing his satisfaction with the work the CBT centres are doing so far, the registrar thanked security agencies for their assistance.
