The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti for six months for embarrassing the upper chamber with unsubstantiated allegations

Senator Natasha’s suspension is in line with the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitons. Her salaries and allowances have also been suspended for six months.

During the debate on the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitons, the Senators urged Senator Natasha to use the period of her suspension to study and learn the Rules of the Senate.

Also during the debate, Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu’s intervention saved the salaries of Natasha’s Legislative Aides from suspension. His Motion for the amendment of one of the prayers of the Ethics Committee that also recommended the suspension of the salaries of Senator Natasha’s Aides for six months was accepted by the Senate.

The Senate did not allow Senator Natasha to speak because the Senators were in the sitting to debate on the recommendations of the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitons and not to debate on her claims which were unanimously dismissed by the Committee.
