NiMET Warns Listed States of Impending Severe Heat, Outlines Safety Measures
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency(NiMET) has alerted no fewer than 19 states of the country of an impending severe heat, urging residents to prioritize their safety and health.
Warning against a rapid rise in temperature in the next 3-4 days in listed states by the agency, came in on Tuesday morning.
The agency stated the risks the ultimate rise in temperature and high humidity may cause; fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, impaired motor skills, and reduced productivity.
It also outlined safety measures to be taken during this period as residents are advised to wear sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, face caps, avoid coming out during peak sun hours (12pm to 3pm).
NiMET listed states that should take this warning seriously including; Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, and FCT.
Others are; the South-West, coastal areas, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Sokoto.
