Declare State of Emergency in Zamfara – Coalition Begs Tinubu
The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD), has begged president Tinubu to also declare an emergency rule in Zamfara state like he did in Rivers.
Few days ago, the president declared a state of emergency in Rivers state and suspended the state governor and deputy over crisis.
At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the group stated that the actions of the state Government works against democratic institutions as well as economic stability and promotes insecurity.
The convener, Ibrahim Yakubu of the coalition who spoke on the behalf stated that it was wrong to suspend 10 members of House of Assembly of the state for 13 months.
He further noted that such action robs the state’s residents of quality representation. He noted that it is the right time for president Tinubu to declare emergency rule in the state.
“In light of these grave violations, it is time for President Bola Tinubu to act before it is too late. A state of emergency must be declared in Zamfara without delay.
“The suspension of 10 members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly for 13 months, simply for expressing concerns about security, has crippled the legislative chamber and denied the people of Zamfara their right to effective representation.
“This has weakened the legislative process and severely restricted democratic engagement in the state.
“A six-month emergency period is essential to restore order, address governance challenges, and pave the way for a return to democratic processes.
“This is not a call made lightly; it is a demand born out of necessity, as the current trajectory threatens not only Zamfara but the entire nation,” Yakubu stated.
He further urged that the emergency rule should be effected swiftly to secure the resources of the state, secure the lives of residents and ensure an effective governance structure.
