Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service has banned danfo buses from operation; warns against entering them referring to them as “threat to lives.”
The commission’s Director, Mr Akin-George Fashola, in a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the state Ministry of Transportation, Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola — instructed anyone who finds such vehicles to report them. According to the director, such vehicles are ‘ticking time bombs’ as they have weak tyres, and every other parts are not in good states yet operate at nights and have caused more harm than good.
“The rickety vehicles have been linked to numerous accidents in the state, often resulting in loss of lives, injuries, and property damage.
“Several critical issues common among the seized vehicles are unstable tires due to expiration, potential brake failure caused by makeshift repairs, and disjointed body compartments weakened by rust, all of which render them unfit for commercial use,” he said.
