Nigeria’s first lady, Olunremi Tinubu has called on the Monarchs of Ondo state to join hands and put an end to Female Genital Mutilation and HIV/AIDS.
During her visit to Ondo on Thursday, the first lady made this call highlighting Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Tuberculosis, Female Genital Mutilation, mother-to-child HIV/AIDS, etc.
In her meeting with the Ondo council of Oba’s, she stressed that the mentioned infections/diseases are fast killing and has affected a lot of lives in the state. She stressed on FGM as old tradition which ahs affected girls and women’s lives.
Mentioning the Renewed Hope Initiative, Remi said it features plans to improve the well-being of women and girls across the country.
The Ondo Council of Obas’ Chairman, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, in his remark through the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi — who represented him, said the council would help in anyway they can even if there is no money.
Furthermore, the first lady mentioned her plans to introduce a new initiative to distribute 10,000 Sanitary pads to girls across different states especially rural places.
