16-Year Old Girl Fakes Own Kidnap in Abakaliki, Demands N2M Ransom
A 16-year-old secondary school girl in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has faked her kidnap and placed a ransom of N2 million for her release.
According to the report and as confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu —the girl whose identity is undisclosed plotted with a family friend and contacted a family member, lying she had been kidnapped
According to the police, the girl who hails from Izzi Local Government Area attends a private secondary school on Watchman Street in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state and is in SS2 class.
When interviewed, the girl would tell the police that she always dreamt of being kidnapped and her mother always prayed against it —but then, she had gone to buy clothes when someone tapped her from behind and she lost consciousness and only woke up the next day at Ishieke Junction.
According to her, when she regained consciousness, she would ask for directions back to Abakaliki town but as she was released — she headed straight to the house of a family friend who did not know she was missing.
She would collect the man’s phone and messaged her brother telling him she had been kidnapped and N2 million was needed for her release.
However, when her brother would ask to speak with the abductors and get their location, she would end the call and block his number — which she would later unblock to send the account number of the man in whose house she was.
Unknown to her, her brother would track the phone and get the police to raid the house and arrest everyone involved in the plot.
The police said they are still investigating the case and the girl has been given back to her family.
