Villagers Rescue Man Who Jumped in a River, in Osun

A man in Osogbo, Osun State was rescued on Wednesday, after he tried to kill himself by diving in to an overflown river at the time bridge along East Bypass road, Osogbo.

According to an eye witness identified as Dorcas Taiwo, who happens to own a shop near the scene of the incident, she disclosed that the man had been wandering around the area since Saturday until he jumped in on Wednesday.

Apparently, Taiwo was the one who alerted the people around about the incident as she noticed the man moving closer to the bridge and dived in.

She said some of the people who had gathered volunteered to jump in and they saved the man.

She said; “It happened before noon. A yet to be identified individual had jumped into a river located not far from Testing Ground roundabout along East Bypass. The place is close to my shop.

“The man had been wandering around Testing Ground Area towards that river since Saturday. His sanity is doubtful. Immediately he jumped into the river, I shouted and some passer by also joined us.

“Some of them jumped into the river and brought him out. He was completely without dress when he was rescued. He was rescued alive. Shortly after, operatives of the Osun and the Federal Fire Service, arrived the scene.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Osun State Fire Service, Adekunle Ibrahim, said the man was already taken out of the water before the Fire service Operatives of the state and in federal level could arrive at the scene.

He stated that the man, whose identity is yet unknown at the time of reporting this, was left in the care of the community people.
