INSIDE Ebonyi Community Where 61-Year Old Farmer Was Accused of Mnrder, Publicly Humiliated
A 61-year old cassava/rice farmer from Eziama Eziakpude Ndukwe in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Kingsley Ogbonna, has narrated his ordeal with his community after he was accused of killing two elderly men.
In an interview with Punch, the farmer disclosed that he became a farmer in 2017, 15 years now since he came back from Abuja where he lived and worked as a contractor.
According to ogbonna, he was subjected to a high level of humiliation from what he described as envy from his community people who he said saw him as a threat after he returned from Abuja.
He said; “I was summoned by the eldest man in our community on the 13th of May 2025 when I came back from the farm. So, the following day, as early as six o’clock in the morning, I was with the community people.
“They said I was dragging a piece of land with two people, and that I killed them in the process. It was a young man identified as Matthew, who accused me of killing his kinsmen.
“He told them that I killed his elder brothers and that I threatened to kill him. I even thought it was a joke until the villagers took the matter seriously and started calling me names and threatening me.”
However, the victim clarified that the issue arose after a piece of land was sold but his portion of the money was not given to him even when he asked.
According to him, the two dead men in question whom he was accused of killing were people who died at 95 and 83.
He further narrated how he was made to choose death or public disgrace and faeces, and other nasty things were thrown at him.
“On the 14th May, 2025, after the elders had ganged up against me and concluded with the wrong accusation that I killed the two elderly men, they gave me two options of death or public disgrace. I was not allowed to defend myself.
“Even if I tried to do so, the entire community had conspired. It was a gang-up. They said I tied a lizard somewhere in my house. Since I didn’t tie any lizard anywhere, I rejected the claims. They led me to a place behind my house where a lizard was tied,” he added.

Furthermore, Ogbonna narrated how he was forced to eat the dead lizard but refused which led to a whole new level of public disgrace.
He added; “They stripped me of my clothes. I was forced to walk nearly naked in the community. Women were told to bring their urine and pour it on me. People started bringing faeces and dirt and poured them on me.”
In a turn of events, the victim disclosed that no one came to rescue except his cousin brother who had threatened to cut those who humiliated him.
He disclosed that he had gone to the police to report and was charged 200k which he couldn’t afford so he negotiated down to 50k but nothing was still done about his case.
According to him, he never got justice untill he left the village and even outside, he still lives with the trauma and, in fear and frustration.
Sadly however, Ogbonna disclosed that some other people in the community have had to face the same fate after they were wrongly accused. He said the village elders always did that to people and nothing has been done about it.
He extended his gratitude to his children and a rights group that attempted to get justice for him before he was advised to stay away from the community entirely since it was their way of life.
According to him, he was subjected to such level of humiliation because his children were not influential as he was further charged with 500k fine after everything.
“It is about two plots of land. I went to the police station to report them, but nothing happened. I just discovered that the land matters are becoming a problem, so I ran away from them. I want to live the rest of my life in peace because I’ve seen that the system cannot give me justice.
“I fear for my life. I have gone through so much struggle and suffering, and at this stage of my life, I should not be living on earth with fear and frustration,” he lamented.
