NYSC Denies Extending Service Year of Corp Member Who Criticized Tinubu
The National Youth Service Corps has debunked news that it extended the service year of corp member Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, who initially criticized President Tinubu’s administration.
Recall that, some months ago Raye had taken to TikTok to bash president Tinubu for not making things easy for Nigerians since he assumed office.
On her TikTok account, @talktoraye, she described the president as a terrible leader which led to her being allegedly threatened by NYSC and other authorities.
Raye who serves in Lagos had also describes the state as smelling.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sowore had shared a news stating that “NYSC punitively extends Raye’s service year by 2 months for criticising Tinubu’s administration over hardship.
He added; “This Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime might go down with Rita Raye’s National Youth Service Corps matter.
“This is not acceptable, we will mobilise down to the Passing Out Parade except Rita is allowed to complete her NYSC national service without let or hindrance.”
However, the acting NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Carol Embu, debunked the new on Wednesday questioning if Sowore is a part of the NYSC board to have shared such news.
She further explained that it is not possible for a corp member’s service year to be extended untill their passing out following some guidelines.
She said; “Who is Sowore? Does he work with the NYSC? So, how come you are listening to him? I don’t understand how she will get an extension if she is still serving.
“NYSC is not an irresponsible organisation; we work with rules and regulations. She is still serving; if she has any issues, we will wait and see.”
Also, the said corp member is yet to make any post about the speculation to verify or debunk it as she couldn’t also be reached at the time of reporting this.
