Sokoto Governor Turns Civil Servants’ May Salary to Loan

The governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has converted the salary paid to workers in May ahead of Eid-el-Adha, to a soft loan. He ordered for the money to be repaid in three instalments.

This was contained in a statement by the governor’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, on Friday.

According to the governor in the statement, the government reached the decision in a bid to ease post-festive financial pressure on civil servants.

He said, “I am aware that many of our workers are still facing financial challenges due to the expenses incurred during the Sallah festivities.

“This measure is intended to support them by easing immediate financial strain, allowing for repayment in three convenient monthly deductions.”

He included that he is positive that the citizens and their families would be relieved through the initiative.

On the other hand, the governor ordered that all workers in the state be paid their June 2025 salaries no matter their rank; staff under the state and local governments, Local Government Education Authorities, and pensioners.

According to his directives, payment is expected to commence from Monday, June 30.
