“No More Third Term”: Isuikwuato Group Declares War on Orji Kalu’s 2027 Senate Ambition

The race for the Abia North Senatorial seat in 2027 has taken a dramatic turn, as a powerful political movement under the banner of the Coalition for Equity and Justice in Abia North, Isuikwuato LGA Chapter, has openly declared that the era of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s dominance must come to an end.

In a strongly worded communiqué issued after an extraordinary meeting held on June 2, 2025, at the country home of Hon. Chief Chima Agbaeze, KSC, FISM, the Coalition firmly rejected any attempt by Kalu, the incumbent senator, to seek a third term in office.

The meeting, which drew stakeholders from across political, religious, economic, and cultural divides, emphasized that the Abia North Senate seat “is not the birthright of any one individual or local government”, in a clear reference to Senator Kalu who hails from Bende LGA.

According to the communique signed by members of the Abia North Coalition Against Senate 3rd Term, the senatorial seat should rotate equitably among the five LGAs—Isuikwuato, Bende, Umunneochi, Ohafia, and Arochukwu—with a maximum of two terms per zone.

“It is an aberration for one Local Government Area or an individual to make the Abia North Senate seat at the National Assembly an individual or one Local Government patrimony,” the coalition stated.

This open opposition signals a major political setback for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, whose ambition for a third term in 2027 may now face stiff resistance from within his own senatorial district.

While throwing their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and endorsing his second-term bid, the coalition made it clear that Kalu’s time in the Senate must come to an end to allow for a more inclusive and balanced representation in Abia North.

Political watchers say this development may reshape the power dynamics in the region and provide an opportunity for other LGAs—particularly Isuikwuato—to produce the next senator.

With this bold declaration, Senator Kalu’s 3rd term bid now hangs in the balance, as the call for zoning justice and fresh representation grows louder across Abia North.
