Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, has strongly condemned the deadly explosions in Maiduguri, describing the attacks as inhumane and targeted at innocent civilians.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Yahaya said the blasts reported at the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the Monday Market Roundabout, and the Post Office area resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The explosions reportedly occurred almost at the same time on Monday evening, around 7:02 p.m., triggering panic across several parts of the city, especially around the busy Monday Market axis.

Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Mohammed Kafaran, said emergency teams were quickly dispatched to the affected areas.
He stated, “There was a bomb explosion around the Monday Market area near Elkanemi. Our personnel have been sent to the scene to assess the situation and gather details. Further information will be provided soon.”
Eyewitness accounts indicated that several casualties were recorded at the scene, while those injured were taken to nearby medical facilities, including the State Specialist Hospital, for urgent treatment.
Reacting to the incident, Yahaya described the attack as a brutal attempt to spread fear and undermine the fragile peace being rebuilt in the North-East.
“This senseless violence is deeply condemnable. It is a direct assault on our shared humanity and a cruel effort to destabilise the progress being made in the region,” he said.
The governor extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly families who lost loved ones, and wished a speedy recovery to those receiving medical care.
He also praised first responders and security personnel for their prompt action in handling the situation.
Yahaya reaffirmed the commitment of northern governors to collaborate with the Federal Government and security agencies in tackling terrorism and other security threats.
“At a time like this, unity is essential. We must stand firm against terror. Our determination to secure the region remains strong, and together, we will overcome these acts,” he added.
He further urged residents to stay alert, remain calm, and support security agencies with useful information to aid ongoing investigations, while calling for intensified efforts to ensure those behind the attacks are brought to justice.
