Oborevwori Maps Out Plan to Tackle Ritual Killings, Other Crimes in Delta
The governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori along with other authorities, have mapped out strategic plans to solve the rising ritual killings, drug dealings and other crimes in the state.
After a meeting with his House of Assembly members, traditional rulers and other authorities in the state on Thursday, the governor in a statement on his social media page, disclosed that he has ordered all hands to be on deck.
According to Oborevwori, he and the assembly members and others that were present in the meeting described security as “shared responsibility”.
He disclosed that he had directed council chairmen to hold security meetings every month while local vigilantes across the state would be empowered to fight the crimes that are currently on the rise.
He said; “Today, in a meeting with Service Commanders, House of Assembly members, Council Chairmen, traditional rulers, and members of the State Executive Council in Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, to proffer solutions to the menace of kidnapping, ritual killings, drug abuse, and other sundry crimes.
“We agreed that security is a shared responsibility and that all hands must be on deck. At the meeting, I directed all LGA Council Chairmen, as a matter of urgency, to hold their security council meetings monthly.
“We brainstormed various approaches to tackling the challenges, including empowering our local vigilante groups across the state.”
Additionally, the governor lauded various security agencies for always collaborating with traditional rulers as he urged the general public to join hands and work in unity to put an end to the menace of crimes.
“I commended the various security agencies for their commitment and urged collaboration with traditional rulers.
“I also solicited grassroots intelligence from our people to enable the security agencies to perform optimally,” he added.
