Panic in Maiduguri as Multiple Bomb Blasts Leave Many Feared Dead
Several people are feared dead while many others sustained injuries after multiple bomb explosions rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, triggering panic among residents.
The explosions reportedly occurred around busy locations in the city, including areas close to the popular Monday Market and near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Emergency responders and security personnel were quickly deployed to the affected areas following the blasts, as authorities began efforts to evacuate victims and assess the situation.
Residents said they heard loud explosions that shook parts of the city shortly after the evening meal during the ongoing Ramadan period. The blasts caused widespread fear, with many people fleeing the area in search of safety.
Initial reports indicated that several people were injured in the attacks, though the exact number of casualties had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report. Some of the victims were reportedly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Security sources and witnesses also confirmed that more than one explosion was heard across different parts of the city, raising concerns about coordinated attacks.
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has long been associated with insurgency-related violence in Nigeria’s North-East, largely linked to extremist groups operating in the region. In recent years, however, the city had witnessed fewer large-scale attacks compared to the peak of the insurgency.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosions or confirm the number of casualties, while investigations into the incident were ongoing.
