Police Officer Stabs Man Over Girlfriend

Police Arrest 50-Year-Old Man For Killing Wife’s Suspected Lover

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Hassan Umaru, for allegedly killing a fellow resident following a dispute linked to suspected infidelity involving his wife.

Police authorities said the incident took place around 12:30 p.m. on February 1, 2026, in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area of the state.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, officers at the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received information that Umaru had accused Sukari Abdul, 45, of engaging in an affair with his spouse.

The situation reportedly escalated at the village market square, where the suspect allegedly attacked Abdul with a cutlass during a heated confrontation. The victim was rushed to the Bularaba Primary Health Care Centre for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, and the weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands when faced with personal or domestic disputes. He encouraged members of the public to channel grievances through lawful and appropriate authorities.
