Police Arrest Man, Teenage Son Over Alleged Firearm Possession in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Kehinde Joseph, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, for allegedly being in possession of a locally fabricated pistol, a live round of ammunition, and a face mask.

The suspects were apprehended on Sunday during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road by officers attached to the command’s Quick Response Squad.

Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the younger suspect was first intercepted around the Lafarge axis at about 11 a.m. while riding in a commercial tricycle.

According to him, a search conducted on the boy led to the discovery of the firearm and other items, which he could not account for. The teenager reportedly told officers that the weapon belonged to his father.

“Operatives on stop-and-search duty intercepted a tricycle conveying the younger suspect. A search carried out on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask, the ownership of which he could not satisfactorily explain,” Babaseyi stated.

Following the revelation, police operatives tracked down and arrested the father in connection with the recovered weapon.

Both suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries, while the recovered items are being held as evidence. Authorities say they will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved for their alertness and professionalism.

He also reaffirmed the command’s strict stance against illegal arms possession and other criminal activities, assuring residents of continued efforts to maintain safety across the state.

Ojajuni urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements or activities through designated emergency channels.
