President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has denounced the recent killings in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the incidents as brutal and completely unacceptable.
The attacks were reported in Angwan Rukuba area of Jos and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where several lives were lost and others, including wedding guests, were abducted.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President assured Nigerians that those behind the violence would face justice.
Condemning the nature of the attacks, Tinubu said those who “sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens… are heartless cowards,” adding that such assaults on vulnerable communities are often intended to provoke further violence and retaliation.
He directed security agencies to intensify operations aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible, while also warning against the spread of misinformation that could worsen tensions. The President specifically advised the media to avoid framing the attacks along religious lines.
Tinubu emphasized that security forces are actively responding to the situation and called for stronger preventive action, urging agencies to act swiftly on intelligence. He also demanded the immediate rescue of those still in captivity from the Kaduna incident.
The President acknowledged the efforts of Caleb Mutfwang and Uba Sani for their roles in managing the crises and supporting rescue efforts, pledging continued federal support to both states.
He extended condolences to families of the victims and wished the injured a quick recovery, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving national security.
According to him, the government is in the process of deploying more advanced equipment to enable security agencies detect and eliminate criminal threats swiftly across the country.
