Tinubu Orders Service Chiefs to Relocate to Maiduguri After Deadly Bomb Blasts
Abuja, Nigeria — March 17, 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri following a fresh wave of deadly attacks in the state.
The directive was contained in a statement personally signed by the President on Tuesday, hours after multiple explosions rocked parts of Borno State, leaving at least 23 people dead and more than 100 others injured.
In the statement, Tinubu expressed sympathy with the government and residents of Borno State, describing the attacks as tragic and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insurgency in the North-East.
He disclosed that during a recent meeting with heads of security and intelligence agencies, additional military equipment and operational support were approved to strengthen ongoing efforts against insurgents. According to him, the deployment of these resources is already underway.
“I have directed the security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation,” the President said.
He also instructed emergency response agencies to ensure proper medical attention and care for those injured in the attacks.
Tinubu maintained that security forces are making progress in the fight against terrorism, noting that the recent incidents reflect desperate attempts by insurgent groups under sustained pressure.
The President assured residents that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring lasting peace in the region and bringing those responsible for the attacks to justice.
Security operations have since been intensified across affected areas as authorities work to prevent further violence.
