200-Level Unilorin Student Commits Suicide Over Hardship, Another Rescued

A yet-to-be identified 200-level student of University of Illorin has reportedly taken his own life over economic hardship, in his residence at Oke-Odo area of Tanke, Ilorin.

According to the report, the student’s name was withheld and he was said to have taken a poisonous substance to end his life. At the time of the incident, the roommate of the deceased was away for lectures.

He was said to have left a suicide note at the scene indicating that he was ending his life because he could no longer cope with the hardship in the Country.

According to the report by the Guardian, the deceased had a CGPA of 4.5, sponsored by a widowed mother who is a retired teacher who had been suffering to cater his needs since his father passed years ago.

He was a mass communication student. On the other hand, another student of the same department was rescued from taking his own live, too, for the same reason.

In his case, he had already tied a rope on his throat when a passersby saw him and stopped him.

A student official who spoke on the incident said it is shocking and hinted on the financial hardship that students are going through in recent time.
