Bauchi Passes Bill to Establish Sanitary Pad Banksto Improve Menstrual Hygiene

The house of Assembly in Bauchi state, recently passed a bill for the establishment of Sanitary Pad Banks in important places around the state.

Mr Lawal Dauda, Chairman of the House Committee on Health who passed the bill on Wednesday, said it is to be established in schools, correctional centres and Community facilities across the state.

He also stated that the need for this is to help improve good hygiene in the state among girls.

“This initiative will also improve hygiene for indigent adolescent girls, women, and female inmates during their menstrual periods.

“This pioneering legislation aims to tackle menstrual hygiene management issues and promote women’s development in the state,” he stated.

On their remark, Speaker of the House, Mr Abubakar Suleiman, and Executive Director of ASHH Foundation, Mrs Comfort Attah, congratulated the state and thanked the government for such level of thoughtfulness while they await approval by the Governor.
