Anambra Govt. Sanctions School For Charging Pupils N5k For School Prefect Role

The Anambra State Government has sanctioned Blossom Fount School, Awka, for one month — over the monetization of student leadership for 5k.

According to the report, the aforementioned school charged students a sum of N5,000 to contest for the position of head prefect in the school.

According to a statement on Saturday, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh —said that the school imposed the controversial fee on pupils in its primary section who are ambitious and want to be leaders in the school.

Chuma-udeh rebuked such act saying it is despicable and meant to exploit the innocent children with bright futures.

“Investigation is going on to know how the school is being run. It is an act of selling the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle, and it is not acceptable to this government.

“The act of commercializing student leadership and exploiting children’s ambitions for financial gain is despicable. It amounts to selling the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle, and it is strongly condemned,” she said.

Reaffirming Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to upholding integrity and fairness within the education system, she added that such practices will not be tolerated.
