A tragic incident has occured in Anambra State as a tricycle operator accidentally killed a boy dressed in a masquerade costume crushing his head and resulting in instant death.

This tragedy happened on Sunday in Awka, the capital city of Anambra during public processions associated with the upcoming Imo Awka Festival—an annual traditional celebration held every May in honour of the town’s deity, symbolised by a monkey.

Among the public processions which mainly just created awareness for the upcoming event — includes masquerading, mock combat using canes, and sometimes road blockades to receive monetary gifts from motorists.

However, during such procession on Sunday, the young boy dressed in the costume among others was hit by a tricycle which had his head crushed and he died instantly.

While villagers have been put in a state of panic, the tricyclist was apprehended at the scene.
