Edo Lawmaker Pre-Informs Plan to Defect to APC, Sets Date
The Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has disclosed his plan to slip from the Labour Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that there is too much disarray in LP that he cannot take any long.
Disclosing this on Sunday while speaking to mark his second year in office, Imasuen said he will defect on June 12.
Being the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, the lawmaker further revealed that he is taking the step to align Edo South under him with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Like most other defectors said lso, Imaseun said he is trying to identify with the center, strategically and not based on opportunity.
He said, “I will be leaving the Labour Party to the APC as the current disarray in the LP will not help me achieve my aim for my people.
“My movement will also help align Edo South with the federal government and bring development to our people.”
According to him, a lot of development are evident since president Tinubu resumed office as scholarships have Ben awarded, infrastructural development can be noted, and others.
Citing these, he said he is ready to align himself and those under him with the Federal development.
Additionally, Imaseun stated that there are challenges in sustaining constituency projects, urging local government to cooperate.
The lawmaker pledged to prioritize health, youth empowerment, and rural development, and voiced firm support for President Tinubu’s policies.
He went ahead to analyze all that has been achieved under Tinubu’s administration noting that more than 20 public petitions have been resolved leading a significant difference in lives of “ordinary” Nigerians.
According to him, Tinubu has done so well in promoting Agriculture through the implementation of several programmes specifically in Edo South. He said the President has helped local farmers become innovative and trained in the use of modern techniques and tools for enhanced productivity, under the programmes.
He quoted testimonies of the farmers under the Edo South stating that they are now focused rubber, cocoa and cashew farming as they are being trained.
Imaseun firmly stated that there would be no going back for him as he has made up his mind to identify with the center under Tinubu.
