Counterfeits Looking Real: Kano Police Arrests 3 Suspects With over N129B Counterfeits
Three men have been arrested by the Kano state police for having upto N129B counterfeit in different currencies.
SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesmen confirming the arrest mentioned more than three currencies which were stolen from other foreign counterfeit dealers.
Among the retrieved counterfeits from the suspects include; US Dollars, Naira and CFA.
Kiyawa also said that the total amount of counterfeits they were able to recover is equivalent to about N129B.
It will shock you to know that these counterfeits do not have much difference from the real ones except at a very close look by an expert.
“More than 3 million dollars, more than 59 million CFAs, and upto 1.4million Naira were recovered” The PPRO giving the breakdown of the amount.
Interestingly, out of the 3 suspects, 2 people were in custody of the counterfeits while 1 person had them stolen from him.
“They have been arrested and are in police custody” Kiyawa said.
He further stated that they are still hoping to apprehend the producers of the counterfeits with the help of the arrested suspects/dealers in custody.
However, these suspects are also revealed to have had live ammunition, tricycles amounting to 3, eight motorcycles more than 100 wraps of dried leaves looking like indian hemp.
Many other illegal items were in their custody and they are currently under investigation for several other crimes apart from possession and stealing of counterfeits.
