Ijebu Ode, Ogun State — No fewer than 102 councillors from the nine local government areas of Ogun East Senatorial District have declared support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the reported senatorial ambition of Dapo Abiodun ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday during a meeting of the councillors’ forum held in Ijebu Ode, where the motion was moved and unanimously adopted by members of the group.
The councillors said their decision was based on what they described as the governor’s performance in office, pointing to developments in infrastructure, healthcare, economic growth, and security across the state. They noted that Abiodun’s leadership has had a positive impact on communities within Ogun East, making him a strong candidate to represent the district at the National Assembly.
According to the forum, the governor’s experience in governance would enable him to attract more federal projects and opportunities to the district if elected into the Senate. They added that his administration’s development agenda has delivered visible results in several sectors.
The councillors also pledged to mobilise grassroots support for both Tinubu’s second-term bid and Abiodun’s potential candidacy under the ruling party.
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Federal Constituency also backed the endorsement, describing the governor as a committed leader with a record of inclusive governance.
Despite the growing endorsements, Abiodun has yet to formally declare his intention to contest for the Ogun East senatorial seat in 2027.
The development reflects early political alignments in Ogun State as stakeholders begin positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle.
