Drone Will Be My Defence Minister – Sowore

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said he would rely heavily on drone technology to tackle insecurity if elected Nigeria’s president.

Sowore made the remark during a live interview while discussing his plans for security and military reform ahead of the 2027 general election.

He argued that Nigeria must move away from outdated methods and embrace modern technology-driven strategies in combating terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

According to him, drones would play a central role in his administration’s security architecture.

“If I become Nigeria’s president tomorrow, my minister of defence will be a drone. That’s how much I believe in technology,” Sowore said.

The AAC chieftain explained that unmanned aerial vehicles could help security agencies monitor forests, track criminal groups and respond faster to attacks across the country. He maintained that technology would reduce dependence on conventional military systems that often require huge operational costs.

Sowore also criticised what he described as poor leadership within the nation’s security system, accusing some military commanders of remaining disconnected from frontline operations.

“We have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers who are not staying in Abuja fighting over land but actually fighting wars,” he stated.

He further called for reforms within the police force, insisting officers should focus more on internal security and public safety rather than political matters and social media-related arrests.

The former presidential candidate has repeatedly advocated the use of drones and artificial intelligence in addressing Nigeria’s growing security challenges, especially in regions affected by insurgency, kidnapping and armed banditry.
