I Am Ready to Die for Nigeria — Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and NDC’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for Nigeria if necessary, stressing that true leadership requires courage, commitment and personal sacrifice amid the country’s worsening security challenges.

Obi made the remarks while discussing the state of insecurity in Nigeria and what he would do differently if entrusted with the nation’s leadership.

Speaking passionately about the responsibility of leadership, Obi said:

“I am ready to die for Nigeria. If you’re ready to lead, you must be ready to die. If you’re not ready to die, go home.”

The former governor argued that tackling insecurity requires decisive action and a clear chain of command, insisting that one person must take responsibility for coordinating the country’s response to terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

When asked directly whether he would personally be willing to die for the country, Obi responded in the affirmative.

“Yes. Tomorrow, if I’m outside this country and there’s war, I’ll come back,” he said.

He also emphasized his commitment to Nigeria, stating that he has no reason to seek refuge elsewhere and remains fully invested in the country’s future.

According to Obi, Nigeria cannot afford to allow criminal groups and non-state actors to continue challenging the authority of the state. He maintained that restoring security must remain a top priority for any serious government.

The comments come at a time when concerns over kidnappings, bandit attacks and other security threats continue to dominate national discourse, with many Nigerians demanding stronger action from political leaders and security agencies.

Obi concluded by urging Nigerians to support leaders with the competence, compassion and commitment needed to confront the country’s challenges and build a safer future for all citizens.
