The Delta State Government has ordered security agencies to go after those responsible for the violent attack on Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple, a protocol aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Temple was assaulted on Sunday during the Delta Central APC Stakeholders’ meeting held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. Videos from the scene, which have since spread across social media, show him being repeatedly attacked by a group of armed youths, leaving him with serious injuries.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, described the attack as disturbing and condemned it as a threat to public peace and security. In a statement released on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday, he said the government viewed the incident as completely unacceptable.
According to Aniagwu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed security agencies to identify everyone involved, ensure their arrest, and prosecute them in accordance with the law. He stressed that the administration would not tolerate violence, intimidation, or any form of lawlessness, regardless of who was responsible.
The commissioner also noted that reports indicated the Commissioner for Works (Urban/Highways), Reuben Izeze, was among those attacked during the disruption.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and public order across the state, Aniagwu said no individual or group would be allowed to take the law into their own hands, adding that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
