A 46-year old Osun State man identified as Muftau Abiodun Musa has allegedly killed himself over pressure from family members to get married.
The deceased left a note behind directing who ever found it to check his phone for further information.
On his phone, Muftau asked that no one should cry over him. Report says he has been single all his life with no wife or kids and has been battling depression for over 5 years.
Confirming the incident, a close person to the deceased said he had tried to take his life just a year earlier in 2023.
However, when he wouldn’t succeed, he was taken to his mother’s house to have a close eyes on him after he was discharged from the hospital.
Furthermore, the source who remains anonymous said that the deceased faced pressure from his family to get a wife and build his own family. The pressure became much on him and he left his mother’s house.
When he could no longer stay at his mother’s place, he had to look for an apartment of his own which led to him agreeing to a sublet proposal from someone. “Someone sublet one of the rooms in her house to him. He has been in that house since may 2024” the source said.
However, his rent was due in December and he got a notice to vacate the room as the owner wanted to renovate it, the source said he killed himself after he was told he had three days to leave.
Apparently, he had been depressed from pressure to get married and nearly became homeless.
Nonetheless, the Osun state Police command are already on the case.
