EXCLUSIVE : Photos Of The Houses, Yams, Bags Of Rice Burnt At Omege Community In Ebonyi State
NEWMAX NIGERIA has finally obtained exclusive photos of some of the houses, yams and other farm inputs burnt at Omege-Agalagu in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Our correspondent had reported that the Police Command in Ebonyi confirmed one person dead in a clash between the people of Omege-Agalagu and Ukwuinyima communities in Ikwo local government area of the state.
The Spokesman of the Command, SP Joshua Ukandu confirmed this to journalists on Sunday in Abakaliki after NEWMAX NIGERIA reported about the crisis on Saturday.
Ukandu explained that the incident started when two youths from the two communities fought and one of them from Omege was stabbed.
“The person was rushed to the hospital but later died. Due to his death, members of his community launched attack against the other; houses were burnt, especially the thatch roofs.
“Our men were mobilised to stopped them from causing more troubles. Peace has returned to the area and investigation has started to find the root cause of the matter.
“We have also arrested the man that stabbed the victim,” the Spokesman added.
Meanwhile a source in the community told our correspondent that trouble started when the people of Ukwuinyima apprehended some guys from Omege who came to charge their phone in their community without them knowing that an attack has been planned for them.
The source said “When they got to Ukwuinyima to charge their phone, a guy from the village brought a dagger and wanted to stab the guy from Omege and by God’s grace, he dodged the dagger and collected it from the dagger from the Ukwuinyima guy and stabbed him to death.”
” Because of anger, the Ukwuinyima stormed Omege Community and started burning houses.”
Recall that the Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State, Jude Chikadibia Okpor had told NEWMAX NIGERIA that the state is aware of the incident and is doing its best to control the crisis.
He said: “It was a misunderstanding between two youths from the villages you mentioned that degenerated into a free-for-all fight and resulted in the unfortunate incident.
“However, it has been brought under control”.
