Enugu Govt. Commences Payment of Gratuities to Retired Civil Servants
The Government of Enugu state under the administration and direction of Governor Peter Mbah, has began paying gratuities to civil servants who retired from January 2025.
The Accountant General of the state, Anthony Okenwa who confirmed the development in his office on Thursday, said the Governor made the retirees go through biometric verification so as to eliminate ghost workers from the payroll and pensions records.
“As directed by the governor, we have begun paying gratuities to workers in the state civil service who retired from January this year. The backlog of gratuities for those who retired between 2010 and 2024 will be paid in installments as soon as the verification exercise for the retirees is concluded.
“The governor’s directive is for all retirees to receive their arrears of pensions and gratuities in installments until they are completely cleared,” he said.
In 2023, during his campaign, Mbah had promised to clear the record and pay all retirees their pensions.
However, in his statement, Okenwa stated that gratuities between 2010 and 2024 are currently frozen untill possible verifications are done.
