Several suspected terrorists have been killed following a coordinated airstrike operation carried out by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara State.
According to military authorities, the operation targeted a high-level gathering of terrorist leaders and commanders reportedly held in Tumfa Village within Shinkafi Local Government Area of the state.
Intelligence reports indicated that the meeting was aimed at coordinating fresh attacks and other criminal activities across communities in the North-West region.
The military said the suspected hideout was located in a concealed area surrounded by thick vegetation and mango trees, making it difficult to detect.
Acting on what it described as credible intelligence, troops working alongside the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA launched precision airstrikes on the location on May 10, 2026.
Authorities stated that the strikes destroyed structures believed to have been used as meeting points by the terrorists, while several insurgents were reportedly neutralised during the operation.
Others were said to have fled the area in confusion as security forces intensified surveillance and follow-up clearance operations.
Military officials added that troops have continued exploitation operations in the surrounding area to track down fleeing suspects and consolidate gains recorded from the operation.
However, reports also emerged from some residents alleging that civilians may have been affected during the strikes.
While the military confirmed carrying out the operation, authorities are yet to officially respond to claims of civilian casualties.
