The Cross River State Government has confirmed a new case of COVID-19 involving a foreign national, prompting swift public health measures to contain any potential spread.
State health authorities disclosed that the case involves a 53-year-old Chinese expatriate who recently arrived in Nigeria and works in a company located in Akamkpa Local Government Area. The individual reportedly presented mild symptoms and was later admitted to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where tests confirmed the infection.
Following confirmation, the state government activated its emergency response system, including the Emergency Operations Centre, in line with outbreak protocols. Rapid response teams have been deployed, while contact tracing efforts are ongoing to identify and monitor individuals who may have had contact with the patient.
The State Commissioner for Health assured residents that the situation is under control, noting that the patient is currently receiving treatment at a designated isolation facility and is responding well. Authorities also stated that the announcement was made after all necessary diagnostic procedures were completed to avoid misinformation.
