A cleric, Prophet Apata Enoch, has stirred conversations on social media after telling people not to marry an “ugly person” while celebrating his wife’s beauty ahead of her 50th birthday.
Although Enoch did not mention the name of his church in the Facebook post, a review of his previous posts shows that he regularly preaches to a congregation and has made several references to his ministry online.
In the post shared on Monday, the pastor praised his wife as she prepares to mark her golden jubilee on August 5.
“5th of August, this my baby will be 50 years on earth, many years, my sweetheart.
“I’m 54, my sweetheart 50. Don’t marry an ugly person because of old age. Open your heart and eyes,” he wrote.
Enoch went on to reveal that he had once planned to marry another woman but claimed he was warned against it through divine guidance.
“The woman I wanted to marry before, God told me I wouldn’t like her in her old age.
“Today, she looks like someone I can’t take pictures with. I bless God. I hear from this merciful God who knows I like a fine and beautiful wife,” he added.
The post quickly gained attention online, drawing mixed reactions from Facebook users. While some defended his opinion, many others criticised the comments, describing them as insensitive and disrespectful.
