Vice President Kashim Shettima has started his two-week vacation from official duties, spending part of the break reading and reflecting.
Photographs released on Monday showed Shettima with books as he takes time away from his official engagements.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the break was being used by Shettima to read, reflect and broaden his knowledge.
Nkwocha described the period as “a time to read, reflect, and learn,” saying the Vice President traditionally uses his leave to devote attention to study and personal reflection.
“As predicted by many, during his two-week leave, Vice President Kashim Shettima, by custom, takes time for study and reflection,” Nkwocha said.
He explained that taking a break from the routine pressures of office allows leaders to step back and engage more deeply with ideas before returning to their responsibilities.
“Leadership is sustained by the willingness to keep learning… For the Vice President, the period is also an opportunity to deepen the knowledge required for continued service to Nigeria,” he said.
Nkwocha further stressed that taking on greater responsibilities does not remove the need for continuous learning.
“Learning does not end when responsibility begins. In many ways, greater responsibility makes learning even more necessary,” he added.
Shettima began his two-week leave on August 7 and is expected to resume official duties around August 20.
