Nigeria has concluded plans to deploy 200 Special Forces personnel to Türkiye for advanced military training, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s defence capacity.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed this on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held in Antalya, Türkiye, following discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Yaşar Güler.
According to Musa, both countries have reached an agreement for the immediate deployment of the personnel, with Türkiye already providing training slots for the Nigerian troops. He noted that the programme is expected to commence as soon as necessary arrangements are completed.
The minister explained that the initiative forms part of a broader defence cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye, which includes joint military exercises and strategic collaboration.
He added that discussions also covered areas such as defence technology transfer and possible collaboration in the production of military equipment, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s operational capabilities.
The development comes as Nigeria continues to seek international partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of its armed forces in addressing ongoing security challenges across the country.
