Police Debunk Reports of Boko Haram Suspects’ Arrest in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that suspected Boko Haram members were arrested within Ilorin, the state capital, describing the information as false and misleading.

The command said the report had caused unnecessary panic among residents and warned members of the public against spreading unverified security information capable of creating fear and tension across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command clarified that no Boko Haram suspect was arrested anywhere in Kwara State. The police stressed that the viral claims being shared online were completely unfounded.

According to the statement, operatives of the police command only intercepted a truck carrying Fulani travellers during a routine intelligence-led surveillance operation around Ilorin on Tuesday night.

The police explained that the travellers were properly screened and no link to terrorism or insurgency was established.

The command urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring the public that security agencies remain fully alert and committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

Police authorities also advised bloggers and social media users to verify sensitive security-related information before publishing or sharing it online.

They warned that spreading false reports could undermine public confidence and disrupt peace within communities.
