Sultan of Sokoto Urges Nigerians to Pray Ahead of 2027 Election

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for leaders with integrity, competence and fear of God.

Speaking in his Eid-el-Kabir message, the Sultan said Nigeria’s future depends greatly on the emergence of visionary leaders capable of addressing insecurity, economic hardship and other national challenges. He encouraged citizens to seek divine guidance as the country gradually moves closer to another election cycle.

According to the respected Islamic leader, prayers remain important in shaping the destiny of the nation and helping Nigerians choose credible leaders who will prioritise justice, unity and national development. He noted that political campaigns alone would not guarantee progress without sincerity, patriotism and selfless service from those in authority.

The Sultan also called on Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, tolerance, obedience and compassion associated with the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. He said such virtues are necessary for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development across the country.

He further prayed for peace, stability and improved living conditions in Nigeria, expressing hope that future celebrations would come under better economic and security circumstances. The monarch also commended the Sokoto State Government for efforts aimed at improving security and supporting pilgrims travelling for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
