They Want to Slow Tinubu Down with Terror Attacks — Akpabio

Abuja, April 14, 2026 — Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has alleged that the recent escalation in terrorist attacks across Nigeria may be part of a coordinated effort to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Akpabio described the wave of insecurity as a “gang up” by forces opposed to ongoing reforms introduced by the Tinubu-led government.

According to him, the timing and intensity of the attacks suggest a deliberate attempt to distract the government and slow down its policy agenda. He, however, expressed confidence that the administration would not be deterred.

Nigeria has in recent months witnessed renewed security challenges, including attacks on military formations and civilian communities, particularly in the northern region.

Akpabio called for unity among Nigerians and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to curb insurgency and banditry across the country. He also reassured citizens that the National Assembly would continue to support measures aimed at restoring peace and stability.

The Senate President maintained that despite the security pressures, the government remains focused on delivering its reform programmes and improving national security.
