President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, resulting in changes within the Federal Executive Council (FEC), according to an official statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The memo, signed by George Akume, confirmed that two ministers—Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa—are to exit the cabinet, with immediate replacements announced.
Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the substantive role. Oyedele previously held the position of Minister of State in the ministry.
In the Housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The statement added that Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The government directed that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.”
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume stated that “these changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He further noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers in making the changes, stating that the decision was in line with “Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).”
The President also commended the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
