President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions, setting the stage for legislative screening and approval.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from the role to pursue elective political office.
A seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert, Tegbe brings over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He currently holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen economic collaboration between Nigeria and China, particularly in alignment with development objectives under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Tegbe is also experienced in the power sector, with involvement in regulatory and institutional reforms affecting agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
His appointment is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector, with a focus on improving electricity supply, stabilizing the national grid, and attracting long-term investment.
The presidency expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe will leverage his expertise to deliver measurable improvements in the sector and support the administration’s broader reform agenda.
