An Uber driver has been apprehended in Lagos after he allegedly diverted and sold an iPhone 16 entrusted to him for delivery.
The incident reportedly began when the driver was contracted through the ride-hailing platform Uber to transport the device from the Egbeda area to Ikeja. However, midway into the trip, he allegedly cancelled the ride and became unreachable, raising concerns about the missing package.
The situation escalated after the sender took to social media to report the incident and shared details of the transaction. This triggered a coordinated effort by concerned individuals who eventually traced the driver to his residence.
According to information gathered after his arrest, the suspect admitted to collecting the iPhone 16, valued at about ₦1.2 million, but claimed during questioning that the device had been stolen from him.
Further findings indicated that the phone may have been sold for a significantly lower amount, reportedly around ₦400,000, sparking outrage over the alleged breach of trust and raising concerns about delivery security.
The incident has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians highlighting similar experiences and calling for stricter measures to ensure accountability in the ride-hailing and delivery sector.
