NDLEA Arrests 63-Year-Old Chinese Woman Smuggling Large Canadian Loud Into Nigeria

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman, identified as Ting Hung Kiong, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large consignment of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The suspect was reportedly intercepted on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the airport arrival hall after she flew into Nigeria via Thailand, Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to NDLEA findings, she arrived with two large suitcases that contained about 31 kilograms of the illicit substance. Investigations revealed that she had travelled from Malaysia to Thailand, where she allegedly received the luggage before continuing her journey to Nigeria.

During questioning, the suspect claimed she worked as a caregiver in Malaysia and said she was sponsored by her daughter for the trip. She further stated that she spent about two weeks in Thailand before being handed the luggage to deliver in Nigeria.

Authorities also disclosed that she was part of a wider investigation following increased surveillance of drug trafficking routes linked to international flights arriving in Lagos.

The NDLEA confirmed that the arrest is part of ongoing operations targeting drug syndicates attempting to use Nigeria as a transit hub for illicit substances.

The agency added that further investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the shipment.
