The Ebonyi State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area, bringing an end to restrictions that lasted for about three months following a violent communal crisis.
The announcement was made by the Director of the State Security Service, Ene Kolawole, shortly after a security meeting held at the Governor’s Office in Abakaliki.
The curfew was initially imposed after an attack in Okporojo community, Oso-Edda, located in Edda Local Government Area, where four people lost their lives. The incident was linked to a long-standing communal dispute, prompting swift action from the state government to prevent further escalation.
At the peak of the crisis, movement in Amasiri was heavily restricted, while security agencies were deployed to restore order. Local administrative measures were also taken to stabilize the situation and support investigations.
Following months of relative calm and sustained security operations, authorities reviewed the situation and gradually eased restrictions before announcing the complete lifting of the curfew.
Kolawole stated that the decision reflects improved security conditions and growing confidence in the peace process. He added that security agencies would continue to monitor the area closely to prevent any recurrence of violence.
The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice, noting that individuals linked to the earlier attack would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents are now expected to resume normal activities as calm returns to the affected communities.
