The Ohanivo Women Association (O.W.A.) has expressed condolences to the family of Miss Mary Habila following her death, urging the public and concerned parties to allow due process to take its course.
In a statement issued on July 19, 2026, and signed by Chief Mrs Favour Nnenna Okorie, Public Relations Officer of the Ohanivo Women Association, the association’s National Executive Council said it shared in the grief of Habila’s parents, relatives, friends and others affected by the incident.
The group prayed that God would grant the family the strength and comfort needed to cope with the loss.
The association said it was aware of the different reports, reactions and opinions that have emerged following Habila’s death, but appealed for restraint and compassion during the period of mourning.
It also commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, for supporting the call for a comprehensive autopsy to determine the actual cause of Habila’s death.

“In the interest of justice, fairness, and due process, we commend the Honourable Minister of Works, our illustrious son and father, Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi, CON, for reiterating his position that a comprehensive autopsy should be conducted to establish the true cause of Miss Mary Habila’s death,” the statement read.
The association further noted that after the death was confirmed, the minister contacted the Nigerian Police to allow the appropriate authorities to begin investigations.
O.W.A. also acknowledged reports that Habila’s parents had requested that their daughter’s remains be released to them, describing the loss of a child as one of the most painful experiences any parent can endure.
“As mothers who understand the depth of a parent’s grief, OHANIVOWOMEN ASSOCIATION respectfully appeals to the general public, community leaders, stakeholders, the media, and all concerned persons to respect the wishes and position of the bereaved family,” the group said.
The association urged members of the public to avoid speculation, actions or comments that could worsen the family’s pain or interfere with their right to mourn privately.
It called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and continue praying for the repose of Habila’s soul and for strength for her family.
“May the soul of Miss Mary Habila rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
