Women in the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have launched a grassroots campaign in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
The mobilisation drive was unveiled on Monday during a rally in Akure, the Ondo State capital, where the women pledged to secure at least 500,000 votes for the APC presidential candidate.
Addressing the gathering, the Women Leader of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, Olamide Falana, said the group had already begun mobilising women across communities in the state to support President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term.
“As we all know, every election is local, and that is why we stepped out to reach out to women who are canvassers and grassroots mobilisers across the entire state to come together and, with one voice, endorse and massively support His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, for a second term,” she said.
Falana maintained that women in the state were satisfied with the performance of the Tinubu administration and were determined to work towards another electoral victory for the APC.
“Women here are happy with the successes of Mr President, and they want Tinubu and Shettima to continue. They will work assiduously. I can assure you that women in Ondo State are resolute and committed to delivering massive votes for Mr President when the election comes,” she added.
According to her, the mobilisation has reached all 203 political wards in the state and more than 1,500 polling units.
“Today, we have women from across the 203 wards in Ondo State. We have also mobilised across more than 1,500 polling units in the state. I can assure you that our reach is extensive and extends to the grassroots.
“With this grassroots reach, we will ensure that every door is knocked on, every creek is reached, and every market is visited until we secure all the votes required for Mr President to record a resounding victory in Ondo State. Ondo women will deliver at least 500,000 votes for Mr President,” she said.
Also speaking at the rally, former Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the event was organised not only to endorse Tinubu’s second-term ambition but also to recognise what he described as the President’s achievements over the past two years.
“For us, one good turn deserves another, and we believe Mr President should continue in office. That is what our women are saying, and that is why we are here today,” he said.
He described women as key drivers of electioneering campaigns, expressing confidence that the APC would improve on its previous electoral performance in the state.
“You are aware that women, in particular, are the ones who go out to canvass for votes. That is why they are the first to speak up and declare that Mr President should continue.
“We are looking at more than one million votes. It is nothing less than one million votes because we must demonstrate capacity. We must improve on our performance from the last election,” Yusuf-Ogunleye added.
