Gunmen Ambush Police Team in Anambra, Kill Two Officers

Tragedy struck in Anambra State after armed attackers ambushed a police team, killing two officers who were returning from an official assignment.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the incident occurred while the officers were carrying out investigative duties in the Uruagu area of Nnewi North Local Government Area.

Preliminary findings indicate that the police team came under sudden attack from heavily armed assailants who opened fire on their vehicle.

Police authorities disclosed that the attackers not only shot at the officers but also reportedly used an explosive device during the assault. The violent attack left two operatives dead, while their operational vehicle was destroyed by fire.

The command condemned the killings, describing them as a direct attack on security personnel working to maintain peace and public safety in the state. Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered an intensive manhunt to track down those responsible.

Security operatives have since launched joint operations across the area, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending the suspects. Residents and eyewitnesses with useful information have been urged to assist investigators as authorities continue their search.
