The Delta State Police Command has addressed growing speculation surrounding the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, stating clearly that the case is being treated as a “suspected murder” and not a missing body situation.
Police authorities dismissed viral claims that the victim’s remains had disappeared, explaining that the body is safely kept in a mortuary pending autopsy. The command stressed that due process is being followed as part of an ongoing investigation.
The clarification follows public outrage over the circumstances of Ogidi’s death. Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force leadership described the act as “criminal… and has no place in the Nigeria Police Force.”
Delta Police spokesperson Bright Edafe also expressed concern, stating: “There is no explanation for this.”
The victim’s family has continued to demand justice. His mother, in an emotional reaction, said: “I am not fine… my child… is no more.”
Authorities say the autopsy will be crucial in determining the exact cause of death and guiding further legal action. Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims, insisting that investigations are ongoing and that justice will be pursued.
